Your new role
- Oversee end-to-end payroll operations for Japan, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with local labor laws and tax regulations
- Manage relationships with payroll vendors and ensure service-level agreements are met
- Collaborate with HR, Finance, and external partners to support audits, reporting, and process improvements
- Lead payroll-related projects such as system upgrades, automation, and integration with HRIS (e.g., Workday)
- Ensure accurate calculation and payment of salaries, bonuses, and statutory deductions
- Maintain and update payroll policies and procedures in line with legal and organizational changes
- Provide guidance and support to internal stakeholders on payroll-related matters
- Prepare and analyze payroll reports for management and regulatory purposes
What you'll need to succeed
- Minimum 5 years of experience in payroll operations, preferably in a multinational or fast-paced environment
- Strong knowledge of Japanese labor law, social insurance, and tax regulations
- Experience managing payroll vendors and working with HRIS systems
- Native-level Japanese and business-level English (both written and spoken)
- High attention to detail, confidentiality, and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities
- Experience in team leadership or mentoring is a plus
